It is used to prevent and cure acid reflux disease (GERD) and other symptoms brought on by an excess of stomach acid.

Uses of Zontac Tablets
Unless your doctor instructs you otherwise, take 1 tablet or capsule as needed with a glass of water to relieve acid reflux and heartburn.
Chew nothing; just swallow the pills and capsules whole.
When using the chewable pills, chew each one thoroughly and then swallow it as needed.
Avoid swallowing the whole thing. You can take famotidine with or without food.
Take famotidine 15–60 minutes before consuming food or liquids that can induce indigestion to avoid heartburn and acid reflux.
Unless instructed by your physician, do not take more than two pills in a 24-hour period.
Observe every instruction on the product packaging. See your physician or pharmacist if you have any questions.
