This substance is used either on its own or in combination with other medications to stop nausea and vomiting brought on by radiation therapy, chemotherapy, and cancer treatments.

Additionally, it is used to both prevent and treat post-operative nausea and vomiting.

It functions by obstructing serotonin, one of the body’s natural chemicals that triggers vomiting.

Take this drug by mouth 30 minutes before treatment starts to avoid nausea from chemotherapy.

Take this drug orally one to two hours prior to the commencement of your radiation therapy to avoid nausea.

Take ondansetron orally one hour prior to surgery to avoid nausea afterward. You can take this medication with or without food.

That being said, your physician could advise against eating right before radiation, chemotherapy, or surgery.

Use a specific measuring spoon or other tool to determine how much of the liquid medication you are taking.

A household spoon may not give you the right dosage, so avoid using one.
