Mupirocin Tubes
A generic prescription drug called mupirocin is available. It is available in topical cream and ointment forms. These various forms have been approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for the treatment of specific bacterial skin illnesses.
In particular:
The treatment of impetigo in adults and children aged two months to sixteen years is authorized for mupirocin ointment.
Adults and children from three months to sixteen years old can receive approval to treat infected wounds with mupirocin cream.
Treatment for infections brought on by the microorganisms Streptococcus pyogenes (strep) or Staphylococcus aureus (staph) involves the use of mupirocin.
USES
The FDA has approved the use of mupirocin cream to treat specific bacterial skin infections. It is specifically authorized for the treatment of traumatic skin lesions (such as wounds, cuts, or scrapes) that have developed a bacterial infection. We refer to these as second-order skin infections.
Secondary skin infections brought on by the microorganisms Streptococcus pyogenes (strep) or Staphylococcus aureus (staph) are treated with mupirocin cream. It is authorized for the treatment of infected lesions up to 10 cm in length and 100 cm in area.
Adults and children between the ages of three months and sixteen years may use mupirocin cream.
Side Effects
Mupirocin seldom causes serious side effects. They may, nevertheless, happen. If you experience any severe side effects, contact your doctor right away. If you believe you are experiencing a medical emergency or if your symptoms feel life-threatening, call 911 or your local emergency number.
Mupirocin cream and ointment side effects that can be rather serious include:
diarrhea brought on by the bacteria’s intestinal infection Clostridium difficile accelerated the growth of other microbes (germs) that are resistant to mupirocin, like fungus, causing a severe allergic reaction
