Ciprofloxacin Tablets

Uses:

2. Respiratory Tract Infections: It may be used to treat bacterial sinusitis, bronchitis, and pneumonia caused by susceptible organisms. It’s especially useful in cases where other antibiotics may be less effective or if the infection is resistant to other antibiotics.
3. Skin and Soft Tissue Infections: It can be prescribed for skin and soft tissue infections, such as cellulitis, abscesses, and wound infections, caused by susceptible bacteria.
4. Gastrointestinal Infections: It may be used to treat certain gastrointestinal infections, such as infectious diarrhea caused by bacteria like Campylobacter, Salmonella, or Shigella.
5. Joint and Bone Infections: In certain cases, particularly when caused by susceptible bacteria, ciprofloxacin may be used to treat infections of the bones and joints.

Warnings and Precautions:

1. Tendon Rupture: It has been associated with an increased risk of tendonitis and tendon rupture, particularly in the Achilles tendon. This risk may be higher in older adults, patients receiving concurrent corticosteroid therapy, and those with kidney, heart, or lung transplants. If you experience sudden pain, swelling, or stiffness in a tendon, discontinue ciprofloxacin immediately and contact your healthcare provider.
2. Peripheral Neuropathy: Rarely, ciprofloxacin may cause peripheral neuropathy (nerve damage), leading to symptoms such as pain, burning, tingling, numbness, weakness, or changes in sensation. Discontinue ciprofloxacin if you experience any of these symptoms, and seek medical attention promptly.
3. Central Nervous System Effects: It may cause central nervous system (CNS) side effects, including dizziness, headache, confusion, hallucinations, and seizures. Use caution when operating machinery or driving, especially if you experience CNS side effects.
4. Photosensitivity: Ciprofloxacin can increase sensitivity to sunlight, leading to severe sunburn or rash. Avoid prolonged exposure to sunlight or artificial UV light while taking ciprofloxacin, and use appropriate sun protection measures such as sunscreen and protective clothing.
5. Drug Interactions: It may interact with certain medications, including antacids containing aluminum or magnesium, iron supplements, sucralfate, and certain drugs that affect heart rhythm (e.g., quinidine, amiodarone). Be sure to inform your healthcare provider about all medications and supplements you are taking before starting  Ciprofloxacin Tablets.
6. Pregnancy and Breastfeeding: Ciprofloxacin Tablets should be used with caution during pregnancy and breastfeeding, as it may pose risks to the fetus or nursing infant. It’s generally not recommended unless the benefits outweigh the potential risks, and alternative antibiotics are not suitable.
7. Antibiotic Resistance: Overuse or inappropriate use of Ciprofloxacin Tablets can contribute to the development of antibiotic resistance, making future infections more difficult to treat. Use ciprofloxacin only as prescribed by your healthcare provider and complete the full course of treatment, even if you start to feel better before finishing the medication.
